Taking the program home
When people arrive at Hippocrates, what notoriously is asked to me is “how are we going to do this in the real world?” By the third week, most guests choose to become conscious. Of course, there are some of you that want to be unconscious the rest of your life until your death. But the conscious ones in the third week will never, ever ask that question because it’s an irrelevant question.
The question that one should ask is “How do I live in a mentally sick world in a real way?” That’s really what you’re asking. How do you live in a world that Pepsi Cola’s a staple drink? McDonald’s is where millions of people eat every day. Where the political system you’re supposed to be served by, you serve. Where the religious systems that are supposed to teach you Godliness, teach you separation and hatred. If you want to call that normal, God bless you. I call it abnormal. The real question you have is how do I make myself strong enough that I can go out into that hurricane and not be affected by it.
It starts with an “F” word—not that one. Which one do I mean?
Focus, focus—what we all tend to lack (including me) much of the time, is focus. We’re all taught to be multitude thinkers. We know a little bit about a lot. We don’t know a lot about one thing and one thing we don’t know a lot about is how to survive. In our cushy world—and all of you who think you’ve had it rough—get over it. I’ll take you to Calcutta, India. I’ll show you rough. I’ll take you to Port-au-Prince, Haiti. I’ll show you rough.
You don’t get up every day and ask, “Where am I going to eat? How am I going to feed my family? Where am I going to sleep?” and “Can I have clothing shoes?” You ask, “What flavor do I want?” “How big will my house be?” “Which car will I choose?” Wake up. You’ve got to start focusing in on survival again. And why you’re here and why there’s a necessity for this organization is because none of us are focusing on that. If so, this would be an absurdity. Somebody would say, “Why the heck would you need to have an Institute where grown adults come that you have to teach them how to live?”
Sure, it sounds really important. I could be all puffed up thinking about how important it is. It’s absurd we have to do this, isn’t it? It’s absurd you have to learn this. Your mom and dad should have taught you this but they were sucked right up into that consumer mentality. The whole economy of this country and much of the world, and a growing much of the world, is about you buying and it would be okay if they sold you things that were healthful and environmentally sound. But what do they sell you to make the quickest, the biggest, buck?—destructive to both your health and to the planet; and now we’re suffering from it. We’re all surprised. How can you be surprised? If you shoot yourself in the foot, wouldn’t you suspect that it would hurt? That’s what we’ve done and we’ve done it time and time and time again.
You need to focus on being positive. You have to force yourself to be mentally positive. It is hard. When I first began all of this almost 40 years ago, I actually felt as if I was a liar being kind and positive and happy. It felt so abnormal for me to be happy and nice, I said, “Well, I’m going to have to keep lying and fooling myself,” until I eventually started to feel it was okay. Isn’t that amazing? That’s how negative the mindset is out there in the world.
I had friends—many years ago, they established a very sophisticated 30-minute good news show. They thought this is really going to go. They went all over to the networks. They said, “Let’s put a good news show on.” Not one person wanted it. Why? Because people do not like good news. Our minds have been so drained and crippled that we are attracted to the negative.
Anna Maria was very surprised when she first moved to this country. She said, “How come we’re sitting in a traffic jam?” and I said, “Because people are rubber-necking some poor person who’s laying on the side of the road.” She said, “Oh, no.” I said, “Yes.”
People would rather associate and be with the negativity that they are. Do you follow that? You are attracted to what you think and what you feel. If you keep having problems with your relationship, what’s wrong with you? That’s the question. Don’t tell me what’s wrong with them. What’s wrong with you if that continually happens with that cycle.
If you keep having problems with your health, what’s wrong with you? That’s the question. And it doesn’t mean you’re a bad person; it means you’re an unconscious person. There’s a total difference between unconsciousness and bad.
Bad is where you’re intentionally, consciously doing something wrong. Unconscious is that you don’t even know what right and wrong is. Isn’t that pretty bad? Most of us really do not know how to get that mind to change—food.
Some of you are thick as the Plymouth Rock—as a Blarney Stone—I mean, honest to God, you’re thick—but you all get the food thing here. You may not like it. You don’t like the taste of it, but how can you not get this? How can you not get taking organic, fresh food that actually, in many cases, is growing at the time you consume it, isn’t the best food for you? You all get that. But then somehow, with that convoluted negativity that we’ve been built into, we warp it and estrange ourselves from it and make excused why it’s different.
“I can’t really do this in the real world.” Why? What’s your real world?—a mentally sick world? You’re part of that? That’s the question. If you get the first part together and start to self respect, you won’t harm yourself intentionally.
How many of you believe in God? Now if you believe in God, listen closely. God made you different than all other life forms. God gave you something called an “FW”—free will. At that moment when humans had bestowed upon them a free will, it was up to you—I am so tired of some of you who call yourselves “spiritual.”—what a joke—on your knees, asking God for help without putting a drop of effort into your life.
If I were God, I’d be hitting you in the back of the head with my fist. It’s that simple. I’d say “Wake up. What are you talking about? I’ve given you everything. I’ve given you a planet where every possible thing you ever needed is here. I’ve given you—in your cases—the possibility to make choices and to be free and how dare you ask me for help when you’re not using your free will properly.” You get what I’m telling you is true. So, let’s get back to survival.
